When defining clients within your account, many fields are available by default for use in storing information related to that client. These include name, address, phone number, and more.
If you would like to store information beyond what is encompassed by those default fields, the best way to do so is via creating custom fields for your clients. Up to 8 additional fields can be defined in this way.
Creating the Custom Fields
Client Custom Fields are defined within the company settings. Doing so requires the "Edit Company Settings (Admin)" permission.
When scrolling down within Settings -> Company -> Defaults, you'll see a header labelled "Client Custom Fields". This is where you can define the additional fields for your clients by typing the label for the custom field into the text box, and clicking "Add Client Custom Field".
Your Client Custom Fields can be re-ordered by clicking and holding the 3 horizontal lines next to each field name, then dragging and dropping the fields into their desired position.
To delete a Client Custom Field, you can hover your mouse over the client field's name, and then click the red trash can icon that appears.
Inputting/Viewing Values for your Client Custom Fields
Once your Client Custom Fields have been created in your Settings, they will appear in the client page for each of your clients under the "Custom Fields" header.
To edit a custom field's value, you'll want to hover your mouse over the name of that custom field, and click the gray edit icon that appears to its right.
Doing so will open a text box where you can input a new value for that custom field. Your new value can consist of up to 255 characters of text. After you've finished inputting your value, clicking "Save" or hitting the Enter button on your keyboard will finalize your changes.
Alongside being viewable from the client's page, Client Custom Field values can also be retrieved using the API.
